Supporting Teachers
Supporting Teachers and Schools - The Glastonbury Trust has supported the work of teachers in local schools for several years. More recently we have begun working further afield through our training packages, annual conferences and participation in the Healthy Schools Plus initiative.
We are always ready to respond to requests for support and to help you learn from our growing experience. We can do this either through our training packages or on an individual consultancy or lesson support basis. We can also help with advice on practical issues, such as planning school gardens and sometimes with small bursaries to get your projects under way. We would also like to hear from you!
The site also provides some interesting essays and lesson ideas to support your work. We hope to gather suitable lesson ideas from you. You can submit your lesson ideas once you've registered with us.
The material provided falls into two interrelated themes -
Spirituality & Emotional Well-Being - Stilling, Guided Meditation, Breathing & Relaxation Exercises - We funded an experienced teacher to support the development of 'Circle Time', 'Stilling' and basic meditation in several of our local primary schools. The outcomes of this work have now been incorporated into our training packages and individual activities are offered for use from this website.
Outdoor Learning - We have worked in the Forest School /School Gardens context for a number of years now and are developing the format, with a particular emphasis on 'moving the curriculum outdoors'. Recently we have been teaching children to build temporary labyrinths and developing a range of related activities. Our labyrinth work is available as a short series of articles that give advice on making labyrinths and as individual lesson ideas.
The Glastonbury Trust is registered as a provider of Outdoor Learning with Somerset County Council. Our Code of Practice and Outdoor Learning Handbook can be found by clicking the Managing On Site and Outdoor Learning link below.
